Shelter Volunteer, Angie’s story:
“Hi! My name is Angie. I’m a Kentucky gal (46 years). I grew up and had a passion for horses and dogs. My children grew up with black labs. We had 3 in total- all named Rosco. I moved to South Carolina 7 years ago. I’m married to my best friend Billy. Between us we have 4 children and 4 grands and two very well loved golden retrievers named Molly & Fred.
When I moved to South Carolina I was in culture shock! I’m a busy bee and had a time finding employment. So, I found the Marlboro Humane Society online one day and thought, what would it hurt to see if they need help? I was put in contact with Kenny Hinson. She was so excited when I spoke with her.
When I started volunteering, we had outside facilities in a field with maybe 20 dogs and puppies. Within a year, we were headed to a County building. We now have so many dogs, puppies, cats and kittens – I have lost count. We are FULL! FULL! FULL!
What keeps me going back to a lot of hard work that is more than rewarding is one particular evening:
I was mopping runs and I was very tired and wondering if I had the energy and strength to get through shelter duty. Then I heard the most beautiful voice singing. It sounded like an angel. I stood frozen and listened to this volunteer singing a beautiful gospel song to one of our very shy dogs.
With tears rolling down my face and warmth through my heart, I knew from that evening forward I was where I belonged.
Indeed WE all do this for the furbabies. However, God has surrounded me with the BEST group of loving now FRIENDS that have entered my heart and forever they will stay.
PS. The angel singing was Penny Nobles.”
