A Shortie Tail: written by volunteers of daily happenings around the shelter and community concerning pets!
Gunny had the terrible misfortune of running loose in the county and taking up with a pack of dogs. This pack started sleeping on people’s porches at night and one homeowner decided to run them off by shooting a pistol at them at close range. Gunny sustained a bullet wound to his front leg which shattered a bone and required surgery at our local vet, Marlboro Veterinary Services, Dr. Terry Eades.
Back at the shelter, Gunny was determined to get out of his kennel and pushed his head through the fencing on his gate, but of course he could not get his head back out and was stuck. It took several staff members to release him and rewire the kennel to keep him in. We put him under “suicide watch” until the next day he was transported a medical rescue near the coast. They take dogs who need medical follow-up and care for them until they are mended enough to be sent to a regular rescue or adoption situation. Thank you Mutts and Mittens Manor in conway, SC! Godspeed, Gunny.
Follow up: Gunny is now Ruger and is being treated for his heartworms at Mutts and Mittens. He is still a very stubborn determined boy who has made several escape attempts from crates, windows and fences. He is quite the character! His rescue mom is a SAINT, soon his treatment will be done and he’ll travel north to find a new home!
