What is Unchain Marlboro?
Since 2020, The Humane Society of Marlboro County has worked to unchain over 50 dogs in Marlboro County by providing pet owners, who agree to spay/neuter their dogs, with fences, canopies, dog houses, water buckets, toys and more. Unchain Marlboro is a major undertaking which allows us create connections and relationships in our community with pet owners and the pets they love. RedRover is a major supporter of this community outreach and helps us out with funding, resources and volunteers twice a year for week long visits where they install fencing for 16 dogs per year. Throughout the rest of the year, our team installs 1-2 projects per month based on funding and resources.
How does Unchain Marlboro Work?
After a pet owner agrees to work with us and prerequisites are met (spay/neuter), a team of our staff and volunteers come out to the property and assemble a 10X10 or bigger fence enclosure depending on the number of dogs. A shade canopy frame and tarp are installed. If the dog is a digger, our team trenches and installs wire along the bottom of the fencing. A dog house, water bucket, toys and other accessories are provided. Our Unchain Marlboro families also get veterinary assistance be pet food assistance.
Apply for Unchain Marlboro
In order to qualify for a fence, you must agree to spay/neuter ALL animals on the property. If you need help doing so, we are happy to help. Once those surgeries are completed, our team sets a date for the install. We encourage the family to help and participate during the install. It takes lots of helping hands to dig the wire trench and install the canopy. Project times vary from 2 hours to all day.
